Well, I have shared with you where to look for fashion jobs. However, what I didn't tell you was the best time to look for one. Just like any other industry, there are prime seasons for hiring. Let's go a bit deeper on this subject.
There are three key times to start looking for that new job. It is actually a five month stretch spanning from mid-January through May. The season starts out slow, but gradually picks up speed in late spring.
JANUARY, FEBRUARY & MARCH
In January, companies tend to get their hiring budgets for the year, therefore, they know how many people they can afford to hire per quarter. January tends to be quiet, but the hiring process starts to gain traction in February and March.
APRIL & MAY
During this time, colleges are starting to wind down for the semester. Overall, the remaining hiring for the quarter tends to wrap up by Memorial day weekend. Unlike other industries, the fashion world is very busy beginning in June when many brands have market week. July is another busy time because brands are preparing for the fall and winter collections.
SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER
In this quarter of the year, companies are hiring employees to replace the temporary hires over the summer. These hires are usually college students who only have full-time availability during the summer months. More specifically, in the retail sector, brands are looking for additional workers to cover the impending holiday shopping season.
*BONUS MONTH - DECEMBER
Yes, in December. You would think that companies would "pump the brakes" at this time since many people are already in vacation mode. However, lots of brands host interviews with potential candidates to either interview or begin the position in the new year.
*I interviewed for my position with Coach a week before the holidays and began working a few days before Christmas.
