The year 2019 is here, could this be your year? How long are you going to wait to take the leap of faith to launch your own line? There is no “right” time or “right amount of money to get started. The rise of Instagram has made it possible for independent designers to have a platform to thrive in E-commerce. Briana Wilson, the designer of “Matte Brand”, built her fashion empire from social media, generating over $500,000 in sales in 3 years at the age of 24. Her success is the exception rather than the rule, but it is evidence that the same is possible for you. Depending on your business goals, you can begin building your own label with as little as $2500. The question is, how do you compete in a saturated market to get the attention of your target audience?
When I decided to launch my own agency, I made it a point to focus on what I could provide my clients that would make them excited to work with me. Sometimes, it’s not what you offer, but its presentation that can make all the difference. Whether you want to create a fashion brand or a lifestyle brand, authenticity is important. Showcase your collection in a way that will entice your demographic.
First comes the brand, then comes the product, I cannot stress this enough. Once you’ve established your brand, THEN you can decide what type of product you would like to create. The goal is to build your products around your brand. If you miss this step, it could cost you a lot more than time & resources. When you establish the brand first, it will lay the foundation for your brand to focus on one product with the option to expand into different categories in the future. Ralph Lauren is a great example to demonstrate this fact. When he began the line, its sole product was men's neckties. Next, the brand expanded into other men’s categories, eventually adding women’s, kids & home goods over the years, but it all started with the right branding.
