Episode # 5-Sweat & Yoga Pants , Non Merci!
In Paris, wearing these items are usually a giveaway that you are not only a tourist but an American tourist. Leaving your home wearing these items as an outfit, ça ne se fait pas (It is not done)! Wearing yoga pants or sweatpants out in public, you would get quite the odd look or disapproving stare. Those beautiful outdoor terraces aren’t just for sipping cafe au lait. People watching is a known Parisian pastime. For the most part, Parisians are always well-dressed even for a trip to the grocery store. Therefore, wearing workout gear might could be seen as the equivalent of going into any store in the US wearing no shirt & shoes. The treatment from the sales staff will definitely be different.
I am aware how comfortable they can be, especially if you are pressed for time or you are a new mom. However, track suits, sweatpants and the most recent favorite, yoga pants are not acceptable attire to be worn outside of the home. There are simple and practical clothing options that require minimal effort yet will always be chic.
Of course the easy go-to, is a pair of dark rinse jeans. You can NEVER go wrong in dark rinse jeans. A mid-rise or high-rise dark rinse jean is always a safe bet if, you are comfortable enough to wear yoga pants.
However, as always, I have a couple of alternatives for you that are not only comfortable, but add a bit of style panache!
WIDE LEG TROUSERS
For those not so skinny days, wide leg trousers are a practical yet stylish solution. The silhouette of these pants can mask the thighs while providing a comfortable relaxed fit.
The Chino is a known classic. A bit preppy, but casual. Perfect for dressing up more simple items like a t-shirt.
Remember, casual should still be smart. Give these options a go to look cool without trying too hard.
