There is nothing like finding the perfect jean. A great pair will complement most items in your wardrobe, fit well and lift your bum. However, the right one isn't always easy to find off the rack. Maybe the hem is too long or they stretch after a few "wears". Therefore, I have put together a list of tips for you.
If you find the right pair, but the inseam is too long, your best option is to alter it. However, before you do, be sure to wash your jeans a couple of times because denim tends to shrink in the wash. You will need to do this to ensure the best alterations. After all, you don't want your pants to look like they are battling flood waters.
If you need to get your jeans shortened, be sure to ask him/her to reattach the original hem. It will cost a bit more, but will keep the integrity of the jean. Your jeans will look like you bought them that way!
MIND THE STRETCH
A little stretch in denim never hurt anybody! Lycra is a great option for those days when you might need a little extra room. On the other hand, too much stretch can give you a cross between “"diaper butt" and baggy pants. Choose the right blend by finding a percentage of 2 to 4.
This can be tricky as we know all brands are not created equal. Some jeans are sized in the single digits while others are done according to waist measurement. If you can’t decide between a larger and smaller size, always opt for the smaller one. Denim with some elasticity stretches over time with wear.
